How Many Microneedling Sessions Do You Need?
By Mallory Radvansky, APRN-CNP · September 15, 2026
Skin care rarely rewards one-and-done, and microneedling is no exception. Here is how to think about how many sessions you might need.
Why it takes more than one
Microneedling creates tiny controlled micro-channels that signal your skin to heal and produce new collagen. Collagen builds gradually, so improvements show up over weeks and compound with each session.
A typical plan
Many people are recommended a series of several treatments spaced a few weeks apart, followed by occasional maintenance sessions. The exact number depends on your goals and skin.
- General glow and texture: often fewer sessions.
- Fine lines: a series, with maintenance.
- Acne scarring: usually a longer series, since scarring takes time to improve.
What affects your plan
- Your skin type and sensitivity
- How deep or long-standing your concern is
- Your downtime preferences
- Whether you combine microneedling with other treatments
What it feels like and downtime
We use numbing for comfort. Afterward, expect redness similar to a mild sunburn that settles over a few days. We will go through aftercare so your skin heals well.
Pairing with injectables
Microneedling and Botox or filler often complement each other: injectables address movement and structure, while microneedling improves skin quality.

Quick answers
Can I do microneedling once and see results?
You may notice a glow after one session, but collagen-building results usually come from a series of treatments.
